Briarlea’s residents had an exciting evening celebrating Polish cuisine at the care home.

Briarlea’s refurbished dining room was cloaked in the red and white Polish flag, along with cute dolls dressed in the folk outfits of various Polish regions. We placed books on the history of Poland and ‘Cuda Polski’ (Polish Wonders) on the mantlepiece for our guests to peruse.

Friends and families of our residents soon began to arrive. They were greeted by some of Briarlea’s staff who originally hail from Poland and who kindly helped host the event. This included our longstanding staff member, Ewa, who was front of house, and who talked Briarlea’s residents, their friends and their families through the delicious items that she had prepared for the evening.

There were soups and casseroles, a chunky pate station with breads and an assortment of sausages, refreshing coleslaws and salads and the ever popular Pierogi dumplings. Ewa had very kindly labelled the dishes with their Polish names alongside English descriptions so people could learn the names of the tasty dishes, while Briarlea kept everyone topped up with bottles of Tyskie beer and shots of authentic Polish vodka!

Thank you to everyone who came to the event, as well as Ewa, Magda, Lisa and all the staff who put on such a fabulous spread. We can’t wait for the next one!
