Working at Briarlea
Our Staff
In care, having the right staff is so important. We all know how a friendly face, or a kind word sets us up for a great day. And how a frown can do the absolute opposite!
The difference our staff therefore make in the lives of residents can be massive. Sunny, bright personalities are a must. At Briarlea, we pride ourselves on our care team. They are some of the most experienced in the business.
Many have worked at Briarlea for over a decade. They really make Briarlea what it is today, and without them, we simply wouldn’t be Briarlea. If you move in, you’ll quickly get to know the team. We’re a friendly bunch. But in the meantime, you can meet just a few of our staff below…

Jo. Manager
Jo is our manager here at Briarlea. She’s been with us since the beginning. In fact, Jo was the first person that Briarlea’s owners – Mark and Sally – employed back in 2003.
Originally hired as the home’s cleaner, Jo has built on her experience through many roles at Briarlea. From cleaner to carer, then to deputy manager and now finally as manager of our home.
Jo’s worked every role, every shift – and has been there for every resident. When it comes to Briarlea, she knows her stuff. She takes pride in making our care home a wonderful place to live.
Her hard work is paying dividends. In our latest report, CQC comments how residents ‘were very positive about their life at the home, and the close bonds they had developed with each other and the staff who supported them’.

Jo ensures our residents get the best care in the industry. It’s for this reason that many of our staff attain qualifications in social care (called NVQs). You’ll notice this acronym cropping up a lot in the profiles below. Jo’s even become an NVQ assessor, which ensures our team’s care remains cutting edge.
When her carers are on training, she will often enrol on the same course… just to see if she can beat their marks!
Jo admits she’s a keen bean. But we’re grateful for the culture she leads at the home – where every resident can expect intelligent care giving, that’s empathetic to their needs.

Lisa. Infection Control Coordinator
Lisa is our longest serving staff member. She’s been making a difference here at Briarlea since 1992.
In Lisa’s words, she came and never left. We love Lisa as she has a real calming influence on us all. In another life, we’re sure she would have been a yoga instructor.
Her level-headedness makes her perfect for her current role as Briarlea’s infection control coordinator – a job that she’s performed admirably throughout the pandemic.
Alongside her role, Lisa acts as our in-house hairdresser. Her mum, Val, pops in to help too. Now retired, Val was herself a carer at Briarlea. Her haircuts get booked up fast – she does a fantastic perm.

Sharron. Care Assistant
Sharron joined us in April 2024, having a wealth of experience in care. Always calm and collected, Sharron’s quick thinking and flair for organisation has made a fantastic impression on residents and her team mates. She’s already showing new staff the ropes and is joining the office team too, to learn all about how we write care plans.
On her days off, Sharron likes to go trucking with her partner Chris, whose a lorry driver and has a passion for gardening.

Gemma. Care Home Coordinator
Gemma began working at Briarlea in 2005. In that time, she’s completed both her NVQ Level 2 and NVQ 3 awards. She’s also been trained in how to dress and bandage wounds.
Gemma is a pleasure to be around; and greets each resident every morning with her trademark beaming smile.
Gemma is often found doing activities with the residents, like our weekly exercise class or sketching in the drawing room. She also takes charge of the care home’s Room and Dignity audits, and has begun leading meetings with residents’ social workers. As the home’s second in command, Gemma also steps in to look after the care home if manager Joanne is ever away.
Outside of Briarlea, Gemma can be found working out with her PT at the gym, enjoying a long walk or trying new restaurants – her favourite cuisine is Japanese.

Carinne. Care Assistant
Carinne has recently celebrated her 1 year anniversary working at Briarlea. Before joining our home, Carinne was completely new to care – having instead worked at a jewellers. Since then, Carinne has gone from strength to strength in her new career. She’s proven to be a fabulous carer and a quick study, completing NCFE training courses on Dementia Care, End-of-life Care and Medication – the latter of which she uses to great effect in her new role of helping manage the home’s medication.
One of Carinne’s great qualities is how she gets on so well with everyone, getting stuck in and always having time for our residents. She recently helped a resident achieve their ultimate ambition of flying a plane over Evesham. We think she’s an absolute superstar.

Reshma. Care Assistant
Reshma joined the Briarlea team in spring 2023. Since then, she’s been a great team player on a wide range of shifts.
Reshma is softly spoken and one of her finest qualities is that she’s always such a calming presence in the home. You can often find her enjoying activities with our residents and is a popular member of staff. Recently, Reshma has been expanding her skillset by helping with the paperwork for our new acoustic monitoring system.
Outside of work, Reshma enjoys spending time with her son, dancing, shopping, cooking and going on adventures to new places.

Rob. Handyman
Rob has been our handyman at Briarlea since 2011. He ensures the home is looking its best. On a given day he might be found pressure washing our patio, refreshing bedrooms with a new lick of paint, or tending to Briarlea’s grounds and gardens.
Once he gets Briarlea ship-shape, Rob always finds time to lark about with residents. He’s got a great sense of humour. While lean in stature, Rob even dressed up as Father Christmas last year to deliver presents to Briarlea’s residents. Helped by good deal of padding, he became the spit of St Nick! We’re hoping for a repeat visit this year.
And if we need some extra help, Rob will run breakfasts, clean and provide care too. He’s a man of many talents.
Rob is married to Jo and together they make a winning duo. It all adds to the family vibe we like to foster here at Briarlea.

Lisa. Wellness Coordinator
Lisa joined us in 2014. Before Briarlea, Lisa had never worked in a care home. But, true to form, she pulled up her sleeves and got stuck in, straight away. Since then, she’s blossomed as a carer. Lisa is now one of our most active members of staff. She cooks, she cares, and she also heads up Briarlea’s cookery club. She’s a real whizz in the kitchen.
Perhaps what Lisa is most well-known for at Briarlea are the beautiful, home-made cakes she bakes for each resident on their birthday. Each creation is uniquely iced and topped with whatever that resident desires. Fancy a cake made with zesty Lemons & Jelly Babies? Or Chocolate Aero & Malteser? No problem. There’s not a cake Lisa hasn’t mastered yet.

Meenu. Care Assistant
Meenu came to Briarlea as a Care Assistant in July 2022. Since joining the team, Meenu has proved herself to be a real asset with our residents, their families and her colleagues, charming everyone with her cheerful, sunny disposition. We’re thrilled to have seen Meenu grow in confidence in her role and look forward to seeing how she continues to blossom further in her career at Briarlea.
Outside of work, Meenu loves to read, cook, and explore new places. She’s a self-confessed shopaholic too!
