Respite Care Packages at Briarlea Care Home Evesham
Are there respite care homes in Evesham Worcestershire?
Dedicated units that tailor specifically to customers looking for respite care are few and far between.
Instead, when we talk about respite care, we typically mean short-term stays that take place in care homes. As while catering for long term residents, care homes may rent out one or two bedrooms for respite customers.
Respite care can last anywhere from a few days to several months.
When you join a care home for respite care, you should receive the same service as individuals who opt to live there full time. This can include:
- a bedroom for your private use,
- use of the home’s communal facilities like lounges, bathrooms and dining room,
- 3 meals a day and available snacks and beverages,
- the cleaning of your environment and the laundering of your clothes,
- support with personal care,
- help with your medication and liaising with medical professionals,
- a dedicated care plan to tailor your support during your stay.
What are the benefits of Respite Care?
Recovery after an operation
If you’ve recently undergone an operation, you might feel well enough to leave hospital. However, you still could feel unable to carry out daily living tasks without support.
If you’re over the age of 65, a care home like Briarlea might be the perfect place for you to recuperate. You have a call bell to ring whenever you need assistance. And trained staff can support you with any activities you might need help with after your operation. For example, going to the toilet, having a shower or bath, or simply getting up and about.
You also have the added security of knowing there are members of staff on site 24hours a day in case of a medical emergency. Moreover, our fresh homecooked meals mean you can build up your strength without the strain of cooking for yourself. This allows you to focus on your recovery.
Holiday care
If you’re cared for by a loved one, respite care can be a great solution if they’re going away on a break. It allows your loved ones to enjoy their holiday knowing that you’re safe and supported.
Vice-versa, a stay in our care home can act like your own mini-break. You can meet new people, and have fun enjoying our varied activities programme. Both yourself and your usual carers at home will come back feeling refreshed. We have some individuals at Briarlea Care Home Evesham who book in with us every year.
Soft launch for a longer stay
Most residents feel like they’ve made the right decision to move into care, but it is still a big move for many people. It’s only natural to feel a bit apprehensive about committing long term.
That’s why respite care offers a great opportunity to sample our home, before you decide to move in full time or not.
A stay of several weeks will give you the chance to meet your staff and fellow residents. You can also sample the menu, and enjoy our lovely lounges and green spaces. It’ll also give you time to contrast the support available at our care home with your usual home setting.
A lot of residents start by coming to Briarlea for respite care of a few weeks. They realise they love it and then decide to stay full time. Others will return home briefly before realising they miss the company and support and decide to move back in at a later date.
Things to consider…
Cost
You can expect to pay the same cost for a week’s respite care, as you would do for a week of full-time care. This is because respite care will incorporate all the same services that you’d receive as someone living in a care home full time.
However, depending on the care home there may be a slight increase in the price. This is to take account of the admin cost of setting you up with a care plan when you come for a shorter stay. In contrast, this cost can usually be offset for those who are staying for longer periods.
At Briarlea, we charge the same costs for respite care as we would for full time care. However the room you choose will determine if this price is slightly higher of lower. For instance a respite stay in a ground floor room with garden access would be at a premium. This is because the room is in higher demand.
Minimum stay
A lot of care homes will set a minimum length of stay for their respite packages. For instance, 4 or 6 weeks. If you only want a couple of weeks respite care, you could end up paying twice or three times your hoped-for cost, which is less than ideal.
We recognise this at Briarlea and therefore work a little differently.
Unlike our competitors, we do not set a minimum stay for respite care. We tend to recommend you come for at least a week. This is so you can get a feel for the care home and the support we offer. That said, we like to be flexible and will come to a solution that works for you.
Most of our respite care customers start by coming for several weeks. We also have day care available for individuals who prefer shorter visits.
Advance Booking
Naturally care homes are designed to accommodate individuals who need care full time. This means that it can sometimes be difficult to book far in advance.
At Briarlea, we like to keep 1 bedroom available throughout the year for respite care. This means you can make an advance respite care booking with us, if you need care on specific dates.
However please note that this is contingent on your care needs remaining the same as when you booked the room. If you’ve experienced a big change in your needs since booking the respite package, we would need to reassess. This is to check that we can still safely meet your needs.
What's included
