In care, having the right staff is so important. We all know how a friendly face, or a kind word sets us up for a great day.\u00a0 And how a frown can do the absolute opposite!<\/p>\n
The difference our staff therefore make in the lives of residents can be massive.\u00a0Sunny, bright personalities\u00a0are a must. At Briarlea, we pride ourselves on our care team.\u00a0They are some of the most experienced in the business.<\/p>\n
Many have worked at Briarlea for over a decade. They really make Briarlea what it is today, and without them, we simply wouldn\u2019t be Briarlea. Jo is our manager here at Briarlea. She\u2019s been with us since the beginning. In fact,\u00a0Jo was the first person that Briarlea\u2019s owners – Mark and Sally – employed back in 2003.<\/p>\n
Originally hired as the home\u2019s cleaner, Jo has built on her experience through many roles at Briarlea. From cleaner to carer, then to deputy manager and now finally as manager of our home.<\/p>\n
Jo\u2019s worked every role, every shift \u2013 and has been there for every resident. When it comes to Briarlea, she knows her stuff.\u00a0She takes pride in making our care home a wonderful place to live.<\/p>\n
Her hard work is paying dividends. In our latest report, CQC comments how residents\u00a0\u2018were very positive about their life at the home, and the close bonds they had developed with each other and the staff who supported them\u2019.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s for this reason that many of our staff attain qualifications in social care (called NVQs). You\u2019ll notice this acronym cropping up a lot in the profiles below. Jo\u2019s even become an NVQ assessor, which ensures our team\u2019s care remains cutting edge.<\/p>\n When her carers are on training, she will often enrol on the same course\u2026 just to see if she can beat their marks! Her level-headedness makes her perfect for her current role as Briarlea\u2019s\u00a0infection control coordinator\u00a0\u2013 a job that she\u2019s performed admirably throughout the pandemic.<\/p>\n Alongside her role, Lisa acts as our in-house hairdresser. Her mum, Val, pops in to help too. Now retired, Val was herself a carer at Briarlea. She\u2019s also been trained in how to dress and bandage wounds.<\/span><\/p>\n <\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n Gemma is a pleasure to be around; and greets each resident every morning with her\u00a0<\/span>trademark beaming smile.\u00a0 Gemma is often found doing activities with the residents, like our weekly exercise class or sketching in the drawing room. She also takes charge of the care home’s Room and\u00a0Dignity audits, and has begun leading meetings with residents’\u00a0social workers. Before joining our home, Carinne was completely new to care – having instead worked at a jewellers. Since then, Carinne has gone from strength to strength in her new career. She\u2019s proven to be a fabulous carer and a quick study, completing NCFE training courses on Dementia Care, End-of-life Care and Medication – the latter of which she uses to great effect in her new role of helping manage the home\u2019s medication. <\/span><\/p>\n <\/span><\/p>\n One of Carinne\u2019s great qualities is how she gets on so well with everyone, getting stuck in and always having time for our residents. She recently helped a resident achieve their ultimate ambition of flying a plane over Evesham. On a given day he might be found pressure washing our patio, refreshing bedrooms with a new lick of paint, or tending to Briarlea\u2019s grounds and gardens.<\/p>\n Once he gets Briarlea ship-shape, Rob always finds time to lark about with residents.\u00a0He\u2019s got a great sense of humour. While lean in stature, Rob even dressed up as Father Christmas last year to deliver presents to Briarlea\u2019s residents. Helped by good deal of padding, he became the spit of St Nick! We’re hoping for a repeat visit this year.<\/p>\n And if we need some extra help, Rob will run breakfasts, clean and provide care too.\u00a0He\u2019s a man of many talents. But, true to form, she pulled up her sleeves and got stuck in, straight away. Since then, she\u2019s\u00a0blossomed as a carer.\u00a0Lisa is now one of our most active members of staff. She cooks, she cares, and she also heads up Briarlea\u2019s cookery club.\u00a0She\u2019s a real whizz in the kitchen.<\/p>\n Perhaps what Lisa is most well-known for at Briarlea are\u00a0the beautiful, home-made cakes she bakes for each resident on their birthday. Each creation is uniquely iced and topped with whatever that resident desires. Fancy a cake made with zesty Lemons & Jelly Babies? Or Chocolate Aero & Malteser? No problem. Since joining the team, Meenu has proved herself to be a real asset with our residents, their families and her colleagues, charming everyone with her cheerful, sunny disposition.
